Snapshots of Bella Coola’s Past

Bella Coola had a group of settlers from Norway show up in 1894, and they brought their (strange, northern) dialect of Nynorsk, bunads, and lefse with them. The town is still littered with last names like Nygaard, Brekke, Svisdahl and Saugstad from the families, including my own, that moved here from towns like Tromsø, Bodø and Bardufoss.
